Ms. Christina Hing, long-time convener of Women’s Convocation of the Episcopal Asiamerica Ministry (EAM) and lay leader of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Manhattan received a distinguished Bishop Cross from Bishop Mark Sisk of the Episcopal Diocese of New York last November 10, 2006.
At the diocesan convention banquet, Hing was given citation for her outstanding work in the advancement of Asian American ministries and women’s advocacy issues. She is a founding leader of the Metropolitan Filipino Fellowship (MFM), which paved the way for the development of Filipino ministries in the dioceses of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Long Island. She is also one of the founders of the Anglican Women’s Empowerment (AWE), a gathering of women from the worldwide Anglican Communion participating in the United Nations. The citation was read by Rev. David Lee Carlson, rector of Good Shepherd and by Archdeacon Michael Kendall of the NY diocese.
As an immigrant Filipino nurse, Hing is also active in community organizations being former president of St. Luke’s Nurses Association in the United States. Last EAM Consultation in Hawaii, he retired as EAM Women’s Convocation convener to concentrate on AWE activities and facilitated an Episcopal Vietnamese-American laywoman leader, Mrs. Hahn Tran as her succeed as EAM convener for Women's Convocation.
The national Missioner for Asian American Ministries, the Rev. Dr. Fred Vergara enjoins the EAM community in thanksgiving for the honor given to Christina Hing by the Diocese of New York. "When one member is honored, all rejoice together..." (1 Corinthians 12:26).
