Welcomes You

The Abundant Table of California State University

Sarah Nolan
Chaplain/Program Director

The Abundant Table (501c3), started as a campus ministry of the Episcopal Church at California State University, Channel Islands in 2004. Based in a semi-agricultural and semi-urban context, the Abundant Table eventually evolved into a Christian community engaging people from the university and wider community in a mission to transform our food system towards increased health for people and the planet.

In 2009, through the material support of Trinity Wall Street and DeBusschere Ranch, the Abundant Table started the Abundant Table Farm Project (ATFP), a one to two year Episcopal Service Corps internship for young adults (ages 21 to 30) to work on an organic farm (Join the Farm!), live in intentional community and engage in justice building. The ATFP mission seeks to change lives and systems by creating sustainable relationships to the land and local community.

In 2010, the Abundant Table expanded its dedication to youth through the development of two key programs created and led by AT staff and ATFP interns: (1) the Seedlings Youth Immersion Project (SYIP); a one day to week long transformative journey (pilgrimage) focusing on stewardship of the earth, justice for farm workers, and spiritual formation and (2) Rooted Futures, an experiential farm-based program for youth within under-served communities. Both of these projects are focused on empowering youth to become peer educators around sustainable living, food system change and healthy eating. In the 2010-2011 program year we had over 1,000 youth and young adults participate in our programs.

Currently we continue our campus ministry work, host a weekly church service in various locations around the county, run the young adult internship, and grow delicious vegetables for our community.
