Bishop John P. Croneberger is Assistant Bishop of the Diocese of Bethlehem. The position was authorized by Diocesan Convention 2007.
Elected Bishop Coadjutor of Newark in 1998, he was invested as Ninth Bishop of Newark in 2000, and served there until 2007. In 2005, citing the failing health of his wife, Marilyn, he notified that diocese of his intention to call for a special convention for the election of a new bishop.
Born in Pottsville and ordained a priest for the Diocese of Bethlehem, he had been vicar of St. George’s, Olyphant (1963-66) rector of St. Mark’s, Dunmore (1964-74), and rector of St. Mary’s, Reading (1974-1980). Bishop and Mrs. Croneberger reside in the Reading area and are communicants at Christ Church.
