St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, K Street, will host its second annual Blessing of Animals service on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013., at 10:15 a.m. Animals are incredibly important in many lives and countless animals, such as guide dogs, serve important public functions.

“This service provides all members of the community – regardless of whether they are parishioners – an opportunity to give thanks for the special pets in our lives,” said Bishop James Jelinek, Interim Rector at St. Paul’s, and owner of Nico, a standard poodle.

WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 5 at 10:15 a.m.

WHERE: West lawn of St. Paul’s Parish -  2430 K St NW, Washington, DC

WHAT: Clergy conduct a short service and bless the animals present

In addition to giving the neighborhood an opportunity to celebrate the love and companionship that their animals provide them, the short service will allow them to meet others who share the joy of pet ownership. Water bowls and pet tags and treats will be provided.

Founded in 1866, St. Paul’s is one of the ten largest parishes of the Diocese of Washington within the Episcopal Church, a member of the worldwide Anglican Communion. The nationally-known parish is only one of a handful of Episcopal churches in the country to hold Mass 365 days a year.
