Description:

Krebs @ 300 celebrates the 300th birthday of Bach’s star pupil, Johann Ludwig Krebs, baptized October 12, 1713. Like Bach, Krebs wrote in a variety of different genres, and this program showcases Krebs’s diversity with his cantata Jesu, meine Freude and the Concerto in B Minor for Harpsichord and Oboe, as well as works for chamber ensemble and solo harpsichord. Although many of his works betray the strong influence of Bach, Krebs also wrote pieces in the newer manner and combined older contrapuntal writing with galant and Sturm und Drang styles. This concert takes place on opening day of the New York Early Music Celebration.
