It’s Friday night: you made it through the week, the kids are hungry, and you’re too tired to cook. Bring the whole family to Charlotte’s Place (107 Greenwich Street in Lower Manhattan) at 6 PM on the third Friday of the month for free Family Friday Pizza & Movie Night.

September’s film (9/20)is Walt Disney’s masterwork, Fantasia.  Eight animated segments set to the music of composers Tchaikovsky, Moussorgsky, Stravinsky, Beethoven, Ponchielli, Bach, Dukas, and Schubert burst forth with breathtaking color in this film featuring dancing hippos and ostriches; dinosaurs, centaurs, unicorns and fairies; and Mickey Mouse as one very naughty sorcerer’s apprentice.

October’s film (10/18) is James and the Giant Peach, an animated tale adapted from a story by Roald Dahl of a mistreated English orphan who crosses the Atlantic Ocean in an enormous magical peach filled with oversized, talking insects for companions.  Younger children may find some scenes scary.

November’s film (11/15) is the delightful musical Mary Poppins starring Julie Andrews as a magical nanny who brings love and adventure to the children of a straight laced British banker and his suffragette wife.  Featured songs include “A Spoonful of Sugar,” “Chim Chim Cher-ee” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”

December’s film (12/20) to be decided.

Charlotte’s Place is a free community space in Lower Manhattan.  Open to everyone, it is supported and operated by Trinity Wall Street, an Episcopal parish in the city of New York.
