“Your Face, Lord, Will I Seek.” Writing an Icon of the Face of Christ

Jeudi, Août 28, 2014
Emplacement:
Adelynrood Retreat and Conference Center, 46 Elm St. Byfield, MA

(Thursday 9:00 – 4:00)

These words from Psalm 27 will guide us as we each write a small 5” x 7” icon of the face of Christ. Beginning and ending with the ancient traditional prayers, we will “pray this face into being” using paint and brush. Although the history, theology and use of icons will be discussed as we begin our work, much of our day will be spent in silence. Many people have found the actual writing of an icon of Christ to be a powerful and moving experience. No artistic skill or experience is required. All supplies will be provided. Wear comfortable clothes and bring an apron and a notebook if you wish.

Rebecca Taylor joined her lifelong interests in art and religion in 1992 when she began writing icons under the direction of Master Iconographer Phillip Zimmerman. She has devoted the last 20 years of her life to this vocation/spiritual practice and has eagerly shared her love of icons with many students. Rebecca is a Friend of Adelynrood and a member of the Fellowship of the Society of St. John the Evangelist.
