The Diocese of Puerto Rico and its 30,000 baptized members were officially made part of the Episcopal Church with a unanimous vote Saturday by the House of Bishops — following Deputies’ approval Friday.
Applauded in the House of Bishops as its newest member, Bishop David Alvarez said: “The Church in Puerto Rico will contribute in our identity as a Spanish-speaking diocese to the growing Hispanic ministry and, more importantly, in helping the Episcopal Church develop an identity as a multicultural, multilingual church.”
