The Collect:

Almighty God, we bless your Name for the life and witness of Robert Hunt, first chaplain to the Jamestown colony, whose community knew him as an honest, religious and courageous divine who, in his short life, endured great hardships without complaint. Help us, like him, to work for reconciliation and healing wherever we may be placed; through Jesus Christ your Son, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Old Testament:
Isaiah 43:1-7

1But now thus says the Lord,
   he who created you, O Jacob,
   he who formed you, O Israel:
Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
   I have called you by name, you are mine.
2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
   and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,
   and the flame shall not consume you.
3 For I am the Lord your God,
   the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour.
I give Egypt as your ransom,
   Ethiopia and Seba in exchange for you.
4 Because you are precious in my sight,
   and honoured, and I love you,
I give people in return for you,
   nations in exchange for your life.
5 Do not fear, for I am with you;
   I will bring your offspring from the east,
   and from the west I will gather you;
6 I will say to the north, ‘Give them up’,
   and to the south, ‘Do not withhold;
bring my sons from far away
   and my daughters from the end of the earth—
7 everyone who is called by my name,
   whom I created for my glory,
   whom I formed and made.’

Psalm 24

1 The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, *
       the world and all who dwell therein.
2 For it is he who founded it upon the seas *
       and made it firm upon the rivers of the deep.
3 “Who can ascend the hill of the Lord? *
       and who can stand in his holy place?”
4 “Those who have clean hands and a pure heart, *
       who have not pledged themselves to falsehood,
       nor sworn by what is a fraud.
5 They shall receive a blessing from the Lord *
       and a just reward from the God of their salvation.”
6 Such is the generation of those who seek him, *
       of those who seek your face, O God of Jacob.
7 Lift up your heads, O gates;
   lift them high, O everlasting doors; *
       and the King of glory shall come in.
8 “Who is this King of glory?” *
       “The Lord, strong and mighty,
        the Lord, mighty in battle.”
9 Lift up your heads, O gates;
   lift them high, O everlasting doors; *
       and the King of glory shall come in.
10 “Who is he, this King of glory?”
       “The Lord of hosts,
        he is the King of glory.”

1 Timothy 6:11-16

11 But as for you, man of God, shun all this; pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, gentleness. 12Fight the good fight of the faith; take hold of the eternal life, to which you were called and for which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 13In the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who in his testimony before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you 14to keep the commandment without spot or blame until the manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15which he will bring about at the right time—he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords. 16It is he alone who has immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see; to him be honour and eternal dominion. Amen.

Matthew 5:21-24

21 ‘You have heard that it was said to those of ancient times, “You shall not murder”; and “whoever murders shall be liable to judgement.” 22But I say to you that if you are angry with a brother or sister, you will be liable to judgement; and if you insult a brother or sister, you will be liable to the council; and if you say, “You fool”, you will be liable to the hell of fire. 23So when you are offering your gift at the altar, if you remember that your brother or sister has something against you, 24leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother or sister, and then come and offer your gift.
