Episcopal Relief and Development has sent another emergency grant of $25,000 to the Diocese of El Salvador to assist Salvadorans, who have been hit by three earthquakes in five weeks. Episcopal Relief and Development sent an initial $25,000 after the first earthquake on January 13.
The most recent earthquake, which registered 5.3 on the Richter Scale, occurred February 17. This follows an earthquake on February 13, with a magnitude of 6.6, which caused death and injuries to hundreds of people.
Over 800 have died, and over one million people have been affected by the earthquakes. Both those numbers are expected to grow.
Episcopal Relief and Development is in dialog with Bishop Martin Barahona about the needs in the diocese, and we expect to support the emergency and rehabilitation efforts.
