ERD Helps More Sudanese in Darfur Region and Chad
10/5/2004
  [ERD]

Episcopal Relief and Development is providing emergency assistance to people in the Sudan and Chad forced from their homes and villages by militia groups. The 19-month conflict in the Darfur region has killed tens of thousands. More than one million people have been displaced and now live in camps within three states in west, north, and south Darfur. Over 100,000 others have fled across the border into neighboring Chad.

ERD is providing critical help to vulnerable Sudanese children and families in the Darfur region. ERD is partnering with Church World Service to provide food, medicines, emergency health care, and access to clean water. People will receive supplies such as fortified cereal, oil, and soap. The program will also give families tools and seeds.

ERD is providing humanitarian assistance to refugees in three camps in Farchana, located in central region of the Chad border. Through a partnership with Christian Outreach Relief and Development, vulnerable children and women will receive mental health care services. Children will attend school at the camps and their mothers will receive both life skills and health education.

Please pray for peace in Sudan. ERD remains committed to helping the Sudanese people through this crisis. For updates on ERD's work in the Sudan, visit www.er-d.org
