  [Episcopal Relief and Development]

Tropical Storm Alberto, the first name storm of the 2006 Hurricane season, made landfall with heavy rain Tuesday afternoon. It hit 50 miles south of Tallahassee in northwest Florida. The hurricane, which had maximum sustained winds of 50 mph, is expected to weaken as it moves over Florida and into Georgia. A tropical storm warning remains in effect north to the South Santee River in South Carolina.

Episcopal Relief and Development staff has been in contact with dioceses along the storm’s path and Florida Interfaith Networking in Disaster. ERD stands ready to respond.

To help people affected by disasters, please make a donation to the Emergency Relief Fund at http://www.er-d.org/, or call 1-800-334-7626, ext. 5129. Gifts can be mailed to Episcopal Relief and Development, designated for the “Emergency Relief Fund”, PO Box 12043, Newark, NJ 07101.
