ERD Assists More Families Following Hurricane Isabel
11/26/2003

Episcopal Relief and Development is giving additional assistance to Maryland families affected by Hurricane Isabel. In September, the hurricane struck the Atlantic Coast of the U.S. and left destruction from North Carolina to New Jersey. The storm caused almost $410 million in damages in Maryland.

"Assistance is [still] needed for residents living in small towns on or near the Chesapeake Bay," said the Rt. Rev. James J. Shand, Bishop of the Diocese of Easton. "Victims lost much of their clothing and most of their food when their homes were flooded," said Bishop Shand.

On behalf of the Episcopal Church, Episcopal Relief and Development is providing critical funds for medicine, food, and other necessities to people living along the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Emergency funds given through the Diocese of Easton will assistant a resident in Grasonville and families living in the Dorchester County communities of Taylors Island, Hoopers Island, Cornersville, and Hudson.

Episcopal Relief and Development is an effective, reliable, and vital ministry of the Episcopal Church in communities around the world. Episcopal Relief and Development provides emergency assistance in times of disaster, rebuilds devastated communities after the immediate crisis is over, and offers long-term solutions to help people sustain safer, healthier, and more productive lives.

How ERD is making a difference...

Countries
We lift communities out of poverty around the world in areas such as Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and Asia. We partner with local organizations in the Anglican Communion to ensure vulnerable people have healthy food to eat and get proper health care.

Domestic
We provide critical supplies to people through local dioceses after natural and human-made disasters. We partner with the dioceses to get life-saving aid to children and their families and stay with communities after the crisis to provide ongoing support.
