Episcopal Relief and Development has awarded a $25,000 emergency grant to the Diocese of Arizona to assist those affected by a wildfire in eastern Arizona. The wildfire, which started in mid-June as two separate fires, burned across 700 square miles, destroyed several hundred homes, and caused the evacuation of over 30,000 people from nine communities.
The funds will go towards outreach for those who were uninsured and undocumented, and others not qualifying for federal assistance after being displaced. The funds will also aid churches and small businesses located in devastated areas that have been financially hard hit.
