ERD Continues Help after Recent Hurricanes

Posted: 10/5/2004

Hurricane Ivan continues to ravage parts of the Caribbean and the United States. High winds, torrential rains, and tornadoes have destroyed homes and businesses—devastating entire communities. The storm has killed at least 130 people. Tens of thousands are homeless and many have lost everything. Another storm is approaching. Tropical Storm Jeanne has hit Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic and now threatens the Bahamas and the southeastern U.S.

Episcopal Relief and Development is in communication with affected dioceses and stands ready to provide emergency assistance such as food, temporary shelter, and other critical supplies to vulnerable people in need. We will remain with communities and help people recover and rebuild.

People are hurting. We need your support to continue helping devastated communities. Please use our bulletin insert in your Sunday Service leaflet to collect funds to help those affected by recent hurricanes. Visit resources page to download a copy.

To make a contribution for people affected by hurricanes in the Caribbean and United States, donate to the 2004 Hurricane Relief Fund at www.er-d.org or call (800) 334-7626, ext. 5129. Gifts can be mailed to: Episcopal Relief and Development, c/o 2004 Hurricane Relief Fund, PO Box 12043, Newark, NJ, 07101.

Please continue to pray for people who are suffering.

Episcopal Relief and Development saves lives and builds hope in communities around the world. We provide emergency assistance in times of disaster. When the immediate crisis is over, we rebuild devastated communities and offer long-term solutions in the areas of food security, health care, and HIV/AIDS.

How ERD is making a difference...

Countries
We lift communities out of poverty around the world in areas such as Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and Asia. We partner with local organizations in the Anglican Communion to ensure vulnerable people have healthy food to eat and get proper health care.

Domestic
We provide critical supplies to people through local dioceses after natural and human-made disasters. We partner with the dioceses to get life-saving aid to children and their families and stay with communities after the crisis to provide ongoing support.
