California Mudslide Kills Ten

Posted: 1/18/2005

A massive mudslide killed ten people in the California coastal community of La Conchita, a result of deadly storms that caused millions of dollars of damage to homes and roads throughout the West.  Of the 150 homes in the community, fifteen were destroyed in the mudslide and at least sixteen damaged.  Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger visited La Conchita, and declared a state of emergency.

Episcopal Relief and Development is in contact with the local Diocese.  We will continue to monitor the situation and stand ready to respond and provide emergency assistance as needed. Please continue to pray for families affected by the disaster.

How ERD is making a difference...

Countries
We lift communities out of poverty around the world in areas such as Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and Asia. We partner with local organizations in the Anglican Communion to ensure vulnerable people have healthy food to eat and get proper health care.

Domestic
We provide critical supplies to people through local dioceses after natural and human-made disasters. We partner with the dioceses to get life-saving aid to children and their families and stay with communities after the crisis to provide ongoing support.
