“We Welcome You To Come and Grow With Us”
Friday’s program will feature the new Episcopal Ad Campaign “The Episcopal Church Welcomes You to Come and Grow” which is
designed to attract those who are un-churched; particularly young adults and gen-x’ers. The ads focus on four areas:
Come and Grow in Understanding
“Enlighten those who teach and learn rejoicing in the knowledge of your truth” A focus on Christian formation and lifelong learning
Come and Grow in Gratitude
“It is right to give God thanks and praise” A focus on worship
Come and Grow in Service
“Send us out to do the work that you have given us to do, to love and serve . . .” A focus on volunteering and outreach
Come and Grow in Peace
“Blessed are the peacemakers” A focus on peace and justice ministries “Market research and focus testing has shaped the new spots for a specifi c demographics group, Gen-X people who do not attendchurch. Their perspectives are very different from the lenses of people of other ages and considerable experience with the Episcopal Church.”
– Offi ce of Communications, Episcopal Church Center
In addition to previewing the ad campaign, there will be interactive discussion on how to incorporate newcomers who visit as a result
of the ads. Participants will also have a chance to preview related materials for, Vestry Planning for Evangelism, Ministry With Young
Adults, Cross Cultural Ministry, and Seasonal Studies.
T
he primary speaker for the Synod Program will be Canon Robert Williams,Director of the Office of Communication of the Episcopal Church Center. Under Cannon Williams’ direction, the office is engaged in carrying out a “comprehensive communication strategy in alignment with the mission of the church.”
Part of Friday’s program will be spent in diocesan teams to talk about local advertising initiatives, including ways to combine with neighboring dioceses in rural areas and exploring Michigan’s partnership with National Public Radio as an example of
ways to stretch advertising dollars. There will also be opportunities for those with Hispanic congregations to work with The Rev. Jaime Case, Director of the Center for Hispanic Ministry, to explore ways that the upcoming television and print ads in Spanish can be fully utilized in local and regional areas.
For more information on the campaign, visit www.episcopalchurch. org/adcollaborative. Synod will also provide displays from Provincial Networks on local and regional ministry programs in the areas of Christian Formation; Ministry with Children, Youth, College and Young Adults; Hispanic Ministries; Anti-Racism; Prison Ministry and Restorative Justice; Commission on Ministry and Title III Revisions; and many others.
