McEwen has taught combat stress class in a variety of military and healthcare settings.  He is a former professor of counseling, has a doctorate, and is a licensed mental health clinician.  Before his current assignment to the 1st Mobilization Brigade, at Ft. Carson, CO, he was on the faculty of the Army Medical Department Center and School, Ft. Sam Houston, TX.
