WCC Central Committee meets, first of Pillay’s tenure

The Central Committee of the World Council of Churches (WCC) met June 21-27 in Geneva, Switzerland, marking the first central committee meeting under the newly installed General Secretary Jerry Pillay. The meeting also commemorated the WCC’s 75th anniversary with a special worship event.

Since the meeting, the Rev. Pillay, previously a dean at the University of Pretoria, has visited the United Nations as well as the offices of the National Council of Churches in Washington, D.C., highlighting the active relationship between the WCC and religious communities in the United States.
