Called to Be Crazy Christians

Thursday, June 26, 2014 to Saturday, June 28, 2014

(Friday dinner – Sunday lunch)

Called to Be Crazy Christians

“We need some Christians who are as crazy as the Lord. Crazy enough to love like Jesus, to give like Jesus, to forgive like Jesus, to do justice, love mercy, walk humbly with God – like Jesus. Crazy enough to dare to change the world from the nightmare it often is into something close to the dream that God dreams for it.” – Bishop Curry, speaking to the 2012 General Convention of the Episcopal Church.

The calling of those who would follow Jesus of Nazareth is to a life that challenges the status quo and questions the assumptions of our culture. During this weekend we will explore the way of Christian discipleship and some of the practices that nourish this counter-cultural way of living in the midst of a conformist, consumer-driven and often violent society.

Michael Bruce Curry, Episcopal Bishop of North Carolina has a national preaching and teaching ministry, having been featured on The Protestant Hour. He is a frequent speaker at conferences around the country and has received honorary degrees from Sewanee and Yale. He serves on the Task Force for Re-Imagining the Episcopal Church, and his book of sermons, Crazy Christians: A Call to Follow Jesus, was published August 2013.
