Awe and Wonder: Meeting God in the Practice of Art

Thursday, August 22, 2013 to Saturday, August 24, 2013

(Friday dinner – Sunday lunch)

Drawing requires that we look closely at and truly see whatever we wish to draw. Working in collage with visual images and imagination also allows us to see with new eyes. As we move from looking to seeing we enter a gateway into relationship with the Divine. That close observation and receptivity lead to awe and wonder, then to gratitude and praise. Participants will have opportunities to learn about and experience the creative spiritual practices of botanical drawing, collage, and sketchbook journaling with botanical artist Margaret Young. This event is designed for those with all levels of art experience knowing that, as St Benedict reminds us, as artists or contemplatives, “Always, we begin again.”

Margaret Young, SCHC, MA, MD, has discovered gardening and botanical illustration along with nature and art journaling to be her preferred forms of contemplative prayer and connecting with the Divine. After years of practicing as a pediatrician she earned a Master’s Degree in pastoral ministry from Boston College and is now a full time artist.
