The Collect:

Rite I:
Almighty and everliving God, who through the Book of Common Prayer didst restore the language of the people in the prayers of thy church: Make us always thankful for this heritage; and help us so to pray in the Spirit and with understanding, that we may worthily magnify thy holy Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Rite II:
Almighty and everliving God, who through the Book of Common Prayer restored the language of the people in the prayers of your church: Make us always thankful for this heritage; and help us so to pray in the Spirit and with understanding, that we may worthily magnify your holy Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. First Lesson: 1 Kings 8:54-61 

⁵⁴ Now when Solomon finished offering all this prayer and this plea to the Lord, he arose from facing the altar of the Lord, where he had knelt with hands outstretched towards heaven; ⁵⁵ he stood and blessed all the assembly of Israel with a loud voice:

⁵⁶ ‘Blessed be the Lord, who has given rest to his people Israel according to all that he promised; not one word has failed of all his good promise, which he spoke through his servant Moses. ⁵⁷ The Lord our God be with us, as he was with our ancestors; may he not leave us or abandon us, ⁵⁸ but incline our hearts to him, to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, his statutes, and his ordinances, which he commanded our ancestors. ⁵⁹ Let these words of mine, with which I pleaded before the Lord, be near to the Lord our God day and night, and may he maintain the cause of his servant and the cause of his people Israel, as each day requires; ⁶⁰ so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the Lord is God; there is no other. ⁶¹ Therefore devote yourselves completely to the Lord our God, walking in his statutes and keeping his commandments, as at this day.’

Psalm: Psalm 103:8-12 

⁸ The Lord is full of compassion and mercy, *
slow to anger and of great kindness.
⁹ He will not always accuse us, *
nor will he keep his anger for ever.
¹⁰ He has not dealt with us according to our sins, *
nor rewarded us according to our wickedness.
¹¹ For as the heavens are high above the earth, *
so is his mercy great upon those who fear him.
¹² As far as the east is from the west, *
so far has he removed our sins from us.

Second Lesson: Acts 2:38–42

³⁸Peter said to them, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. ³⁹For the promise is for you, for your children, and for all who are far away, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to him.” ⁴⁰And he testified with many other arguments and exhorted them, saying, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” ⁴¹So those who welcomed his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand persons were added.

⁴²They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

Gospel: Luke 18:16-18 

¹⁶ But Jesus called for them and said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. ¹⁷ Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it.’

¹⁸ A certain ruler asked him, ‘Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?’
