Bishop Caldwell of Wyoming announces retirement plans

The Rt. Rev. Bruce El Caldwell, eighth Bishop of the Diocese of Wyoming, has announced his plans for retirement.


The announcement was made at the diocese's convention, meeting in Rock Springs, Wyoming, October 2 -- 5.

The Standing Committee of the diocese has called for the election of the ninth Bishop of Wyoming, a transition process that is expected to be complete in 18 months.

Caldwell is beginning his 12th year as bishop of the diocese. Before his consecration in 1997, he rector of St. George's Church in Bismark, North Dakota. He had previously served as rector of St. Stephen's Church in Fort Yukon, Alaska; as rector of St James House of Prayer in Tampa, Florida; and as an assistant priest at St. John's Parish and Day School in Tampa.

Caldwell holds master of divinity and doctor of divinity degrees from General Theological Seminary in New York.

After retirement, he and his spouse, the Rev. Brenda Caldwell, plan to reside in Shell, Wyoming.
