Lesson Plans That Work: Fifth Sunday of Easter
We are currently in Easter, Year A. For the Easter Season, readings from the Acts of the Apostles take the place of Old Testament Readings.
Scripture: John 14:1-14
A house with many dwelling places, promises Jesus. Could it be that the way, the truth, and the light is in the richness of many dwelling places and not in conformity? How do we find the way to this place? Jesus tells us. He is the way.
Scripture: Acts 7:55-60
In this reading, Stephen asserts to the Jewish Council that Jesus is seated at the right hand of God. The Jews do not take well to this assertion because they believe in only one God. Stephen is stoned to death and becomes the first Christian martyr. Like Jesus, before he dies Stephen commends his Spirit to God and asks God to forgive those who murder him.
About Lesson Plans that Work
Each week, you will find lesson plans for young children (non-readers), older children (grade school age children), and adults. Inter-generational lesson plans are available at the beginning of each season and for many major feast days throughout the liturgical year. Most lesson plans are based on the Gospel, and some also have an Old Testament Lesson Plan. In addition to these weekly lesson plans, you can find special lesson plans that celebrate saints, events, or commemorations throughout the year.
These lesson plans can be used as written, or they are easy to adapt to reflect the context of your congregation’s children’s program.
To help you use Lesson Plans that work, we have set up various calendars within each season. The Liturgical Calendar shows the current year and the lessons that fall on each Sunday. The Comprehensive Index provides a chart of each Sunday in each liturgical year. Use the “Search this Website” on the top right of the page to search for keywords, seasons, and more.
