lptwWe are currently in Lent, Year A so we have Lesson Plans for both the Gospel readings and the Old Testament (Track One) readings.

Gospel Lesson: The Choice to Risk Believing
Scripture: John 3:1-17

What color is the wind? What shape is the love of a parent for a child? Some things are easily quantified. In some matters, we simply fall, trustingly, into the arms of faith.

Old Testament Lesson: Faith in God
Scripture: Genesis 12:1-4(a)

Abraham is the great patriarch of our religion, known as the prime model of faith. He put his total trust in God when he said yes to leaving his familiar homeland to journey to an unknown land.  His example becomes a blessing to all of us. The story’s connection to the Baptismal Rite is the concept of saying yes to God. It is not enough to say no to evil; we must be ready to say yes to Jesus. In the Baptismal Rite we are asked: “Do you turn to Jesus Christ and accept him as your Savior? Do you put your whole trust in his grace and love? Do you promise to follow and obey him as your Lord?” [Book of Common Prayer, pp. 302-303.]

About Lesson Plans that Work

Lesson Plans that Work is a part of the Episcopal Digital Network that hosts free curriculum and resources that are published online by The Episcopal Church.

Each week, you will find lesson plans for young children (non-readers), older children (grade school age children), and adults. Inter-generational lesson plans are available at the beginning of each season and for many major feast days throughout the liturgical year. Most lesson plans are based on the Gospel, and some also have an Old Testament Lesson Plan. In addition to these weekly lesson plans, you can find special lesson plans that celebrate saints, events, or commemorations throughout the year.

These lesson plans can be used as written, or they are easy to adapt to reflect the context of your congregation’s children’s program.

To help you use Lesson Plans that work, we have set up various calendars within each season. The Liturgical Calendar shows the current year and the lessons that fall on each Sunday. The Comprehensive Index provides a chart of each Sunday in each liturgical year. Use the “Search this Website” on the top right of the page to search for keywords, seasons, and more.
