Lesson Plans That Work: Sixth Sunday of Easter

lptwWe are currently in Easter, Year A. For the Easter Season, readings from the Acts of the Apostles take the place of Old Testament Readings.

Gospel Lesson: The Spirit of Truth Within Us
Scripture: John 14:15-21

If we love him, we will keep the commandments. And what are they? Rules to catch us in our slip-ups? No, much more uncomplicated than that. How very interesting that all the commandments can be kept using one channel: love. As we step into that channel of love, we receive God’s love and so become capable of loving. And we notice that we are not alone.

Acts of the Apostles: We Are God’s Offspring
Scripture: Acts 17: 22-31

In this reading, Paul tells the Athenians that we are all God’s offspring. Paul struggles with the Athenians because they worship idols and he informs them that God wants them to only worship God. Paul also tells the people that God sent his Son Jesus Christ out of patience for human ignorance.

About Lesson Plans that Work

Lesson Plans that Work is a part of the Episcopal Digital Network that hosts free curriculum and resources that are published online by The Episcopal Church.

Each week, you will find lesson plans for young children (non-readers), older children (grade school age children), and adults. Inter-generational lesson plans are available at the beginning of each season and for many major feast days throughout the liturgical year. Most lesson plans are based on the Gospel, and some also have an Old Testament Lesson Plan. In addition to these weekly lesson plans, you can find special lesson plans that celebrate saints, events, or commemorations throughout the year.

These lesson plans can be used as written, or they are easy to adapt to reflect the context of your congregation’s children’s program.

To help you use Lesson Plans that work, we have set up various calendars within each season. The Liturgical Calendar shows the current year and the lessons that fall on each Sunday. The Comprehensive Index provides a chart of each Sunday in each liturgical year. Use the “Search this Website” on the top right of the page to search for keywords, seasons, and more.
