Changing roles in The Episcopal Church’s Department of Faith Formation

The New Year brings administrative changes to The Episcopal Church’s Department of Faith Formation as staff members The Rev. Shannon Kelly and Bronwyn Skov partially switch roles. Effective January 1, 2020, Kelly took on the role of director of the Department of Faith Formation. She will continue to serve as the officer for Young Adult and Campus Ministries while Skov, who initiated this change, will continue as officer for Youth Ministries, focusing full time on the upcoming Episcopal Youth Event (EYE) and continue the work of building up the network of youth ministers across the church.

“Even as I will miss working directly with Bronwyn, I am looking forward to Shannon stepping into this new role,” said the Rev. Canon E. Mark Stevenson, canon to the presiding bishop for ministry within The Episcopal Church. “She is a proven leader with a deep capacity for hard work. She knows and loves the church, and I look forward to her contributions to the management staff as a department director.”

“I am grateful for the opportunity to shift my full-time attention to the demands of youth ministries after a decade of serving as both director of the Department of Faith Formation and officer for Youth Ministries,” said Skov. “I have thoroughly enjoyed the administrative role as a department director yet am eager to devote my full attention to my greatest passion, ministry with youth and the adults who work with them, especially in an EYE year on the heels of our newest event for young people, Evento de Jóvenes Episcopales.”

In her new role, Kelly will direct the department’s mission, vision, and goals as well as tending to administrative responsibilities including supervision of department staff and serving as liaison to Executive Council and other interim bodies as needed. She will continue her work of leadership training, mentoring, gathering, and building the network with young adults and campus ministries.

Wendy Johnson will continue to serve as the officer for program and events and Episcopal Service Corps (ESC) coordinator. Valerie Harris remains the department associate in the New York Office.

“I am honored to be stepping into this role and am grateful for the trust given to me,” said Kelly. “As a team we have already started looking at our goals and work for the remainder of the triennium as well as dreaming about the mission and ministry possibilities for the future. I’m excited about the work that young adult and campus ministries is doing, I look forward to seeing the growth of EYE and the youth ministry network as well as the continued incorporation of Episcopal Service Corps into our work as a church.”
