Episcopal Church Mission Funding Office presents Second Annual Spirituality of Philanthropy Symposium

The Episcopal Church Office of Mission Funding will sponsor the Second Annual Symposium on the Spirituality of Philanthropy, a two-day event uniting the theological and spiritual basis of philanthropy with a useful practicum on advanced fundraising strategies and techniques, on September 29 and 30.

Designed for directors of development at dioceses, parishes, and other Episcopal organizations, as well as clergy interested in parish/diocesan fundraising, the popular event will be held at the Episcopal Church Center, 815 Second Ave., New York City.

"Last year's symposium produced a real wave of enthusiasm for exploring the nature of the Church's relationship to philanthropic thought and practices, and we're looking forward to welcoming people to the Church Center for Round II this September," noted the Rev. Carol Hoidra, Associate Director and Team Leader of the Office of Mission Funding. "The content-specific workshops are a real value-added feature of this year's symposium, and we hope that the attendees will find these sessions to be helpful additions to their fundraising plans."

Both days will feature plenary sessions, presented by thought-leaders in philanthropy, followed by focused workshops.

Keynote speakers and their topics are:
Diana Swancutt, PhD, Associate Processor of New Testament at Yale Divinity School; Life Giving: On Thriving and the Abundance of the Poor

Matthew Bishop, US Business Editor and New York Bureau Chief, Economist magazine; Philanthrocapitalism: How Giving Can Save the World

Gary Anderson, PhD, Hesburgh Professor of Catholic Theology, University of Notre Dame; I Give Therefore I Am: The Meaning of Charity in Jewish and Christian Thought

Thomas Wolf, EdD, Founder and Principal, WolfBrown; Connect with Donors and Double the Money You Raise

On Thursday evening, participants are invited to a Sung Evensong Service at St. Thomas Church, Fifth Avenue at 53rd Street, NYC, followed by a private reception.

Built into the program are ample opportunities to meet the speakers. Copies of their recent books will be available for sale and signing.

Registration, which includes all materials and receptions, is $295 until September 2, and $325 afterwards.
