An inaugural conference for young people of color will explore ministry in community while celebrating their culture. Does It Fit?: Exploring Ministry in Community will focus on reaching out to the growing ethnic youth and young adults of color.
Does It Fit?: Exploring Ministry in Community will be held June 1-4 at the University of the South, Sewanee, TN. This is the first-ever nationwide conference to be sponsored by the Episcopal Church’s Ethnic Ministry Offices and the Pastoral Leadership Search Effort (PLSE).
“This conference is one example of the Episcopal Church’s response to society’s rapidly changing demographics and increasing cultural diversity among its members,” explained the Rev. Angela Ifill, program officer for Black Ministries. “The church is committed to its work to prepare more young people of color for leadership in the Church, both lay and ordained.”
Does It Fit: Exploring Ministry in Community will provide opportunities for youth and youth adults to have conversations about discernment and vocation, explore their gifts and talents, fellowship with their peers, and experience “life at seminary” as they participate in a tour of the Sewanee facilities and a simulated class.
This conference is a first and is expected to become an annual event hosted by the various Episcopal seminaries.
