The Rev. Canon David Bailey elected Bishop of Navajoland by Episcopal Church House of Bishops

The Rev. Canon David Bailey was elected Bishop of Navajoland on March 24, pending successful completion of the consent process.

The election was held by the Episcopal Church House of Bishops, meeting in retreat at Camp Allen near Houston, TX. A simple majority of the votes cast by the bishops was necessary for the election. He received 105 votes of 106 votes cast.

Bailey”s election confirms the actions and will of the people of Navajoland. On October 17, 2009, Bailey was selected from two nominees by the Navajoland convocation to serve as their interim canon to the ordinary.

Bailey”s ordination and consecration will occur pending successful completion of the consent process on August 7; Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori plans to preside.

Prior to his selection as interim canon to the ordinary for Navajoland, Bailey was the executive officer, canon to the ordinary, and deployment officer in the Diocese of Utah. Before that he served in the diocese of Arizona and has worked extensively with Navajoland.

The Episcopal Church welcomes all who worship Jesus Christ in 109 dioceses and three regional areas in 16 nations. The Episcopal Church is a member province of the worldwide Anglican Communion.
