Dear Sermons That Work readers:

As we begin looking toward the beauty and wonder of Advent and Christmas, we wanted to share some changes we’re making to our resources, just in time for the new liturgical year. The Episcopal Church and Forward Movement, an outstanding Episcopal ministry with a mission to “inspire disciples and empower evangelists,” are collaborating to develop resources for the benefit of the wider church. We are happy to report that the Sermons That Work portfolio—sermons, Bible studies, and lesson plans—will be managed by Forward Movement. Over the past several months, we have worked to transition some materials, hoping to have as few interruptions as possible to your experience of the materials (which will remain hosted by episcopalchurch.org). Still, we wanted to alert you of some changes that have come as a result of this partnership and a survey we conducted earlier this year.

Editors
The new English-language editor of Sermons That Work is Kristin LeMay of Forward Movement; the Rev. Richard Acosta Rodriguez will continue as editor of Sermones que Iluminan. Christopher Sikkema, who took on this portfolio eight years ago in addition to his work with the Office of Communication, will step back from the day-to-day operations of Sermons That Work to focus more heavily on project management.

Bible Studies
Your feedback from this year’s survey reflects a desire to go ever deeper with the study of Scripture—something we’re overjoyed to hear. The format of our studies will change to a seasonal focus on a single reading from each week’s lectionary, allowing readers to follow more closely the arc of a book of the Bible. Our archive of Bible studies will still be available for those who prefer the same format as recent years, but we hope this new format will help readers become even better acquainted with Scripture.

Bulletin Inserts
The survey and our site metrics also indicated that bulletin inserts, our most labor-intensive offerings, were among the least used resources on our site. Though some congregations used the pieces regularly, we are, for the time being, pausing our production of the inserts. We hope in the future to provide more formational and less time-bound resources (in the mode of Bishop Matthew Gunter’s excellent series on the Council of Nicaea).

In mid-2026, we plan to survey readers again to determine how these changes have been met by you, our faithful readers. Throughout this transition, we remain most grateful for the ways you serve the saints in your congregations and neighborhoods.

Ahora que comenzamos a contemplar la belleza y el misterio del Adviento y la Navidad, queremos compartir con ustedes algunos cambios que estamos realizando en nuestros recursos, justo a tiempo para el nuevo año litúrgico. La Iglesia Episcopal y Forward Movement, un destacado ministerio episcopal cuya misión es “inspirar a los discípulos y empoderar a los evangelistas”, están colaborando estrechamente para desarrollar recursos en beneficio de toda la Iglesia.

La nueva editora en inglés de Sermones que Iluminan es Kristin LeMay, de Forward Movement; junto con el Rvdo. Richard Acosta Rodríguez, que continuará con su labor como editor. Estudios bíblicos
Sus comentarios en la encuesta de este año reflejan el deseo de profundizar aún más en el estudio de las Escrituras, algo que nos alegra profundamente.

A partir de ahora, nuestros estudios adoptarán un nuevo formato enfocado en una lectura semanal del leccionario, lo que permitirá a los lectores seguir más de cerca el arco narrativo característico de la Biblia. El archivo de estudios bíblicos continuará disponible para quienes prefieran el formato anterior; sin embargo, esperamos que esta nueva propuesta ayude a los lectores a acercarse todavía más a las Escrituras.

Insertos para boletines
La encuesta y las estadísticas de nuestro sitio web también indicaron que los insertos para boletines, nuestra oferta más laboriosa, se encontraban entre los recursos menos utilizados de nuestro sitio. Pese a que algunas congregaciones los utilizaban con regularidad, por el momento hemos decidido pausar su producción. Esperamos poder ofrecer en el futuro recursos más formativos y menos limitados en el tiempo (al estilo de la excelente serie del obispo Gunter sobre el Concilio de Nicea).
