Dear People of God in The Episcopal Church: On the day I was elected presiding bishop in June 2024, I told the General Convention: It’s time to reorient our churchwide resources—budgets and staff—to support dioceses and congregations on the ground where ministry happens. Just two weeks ago at General Convention, we welcomed Archbishop Hosam Naoum of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem and heard him speak passionately about peace and the life-saving work of the Al-Ahli Anglican Hospital in Gaza. Today I am deeply troubled to learn that the Israeli Defense Forces closed this hospital.
The Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts has received notification from the Presiding Bishop’s Office that Bishop-elect Julia Whitworth has received the required majority of consents in the canonical consent process detailed in Canon III.11.3. The consents received have been certified by the Rev. Canon Michael Barlowe, registrar of the General Convention.
