Easter 6A

[RCL] Acts 17:22-31; Psalm 66:7-18; 1 Peter 3:13-22; John 14:15-21 There are several occasions throughout the year that are specifically aimed at showing one’s love to others. Think about Valentine’s Day. It is a special day when we send flowers, candy, or cards to loved ones. What initially was a day for spouses and romantic…

[RCL]: Acts 17:22-31; Psalm 66:7-18; 1 Peter 3:13-22; John 14:15-21 “Blessed be God, who has not rejected my prayer, nor withheld his love from me.” That feels good. The Book of Acts is filled with miracles, visions, and dreams, and in it, the author, Luke, helps us establish the identity of God and shows how the Gospel of Jesus Christ was spread to every corner of the world. In addition to teaching about the identity of God, Luke has much to say about…

After explaining to the congregation why…

Jesus as the vine with us as the branches is a very powerful model for the Christian life. It sets things straight as to how we are to be and what we are to do. As the text says, “cut off from me you can do nothing.” So this text calls us to be branches….

Jesus imagery in the gospel this morning speaks to us of the rooted context of the maturing Christian life. We are called to abide in God, trusting that the Vine will supply the needs to the branches, that one comes from the other, that we are connected. It is only in abiding, the peaceful, calm…
