The Rev. Canon David Ulloa Chavez has been named The Episcopal Church’s partnership officer for Latin America and the Caribbean. Chavez brings years of bilingual and bicultural leadership experience in diocesan and churchwide contexts, serving most recently as rector of All Saints of the Desert Episcopal Church in Sun City, Arizona, and canon for border ministries for the Episcopal Diocese of Arizona.
“David brings an extraordinary array of gifts and expertise to this role, and I am delighted he will be joining us as the Latin America and Caribbean partnerships officer,” said Rebecca Blachly, chief of public policy and witness. “I am grateful for David’s expertise, collaboration, and partnership in this work.”
Chavez holds master’s degrees in divinity and theology from Princeton Theological Seminary. He has served on the General Convention’s Mexico Covenant Committee and the advisory council for the church’s Office of Latino Ministries; lectured across church and academic communities in the U.S. and Latin America; and worked with Anglican partners and Episcopal dioceses in his role as canon for borderland ministries.
In his new role, Chavez will support the work of bishops and Spanish-speaking dioceses in Provinces II and IX, as well as help build, maintain, and deepen the church’s relationships with Anglican provinces and other partners in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Chavez began his new role Oct. 9.
