Episcopal Diocese of Southwestern Virginia receives consents for Bishop-elect Karin MacPhail

The standing committees and bishops exercising jurisdiction have given the required majority of consents to the Episcopal Diocese of Southwestern Virginia for its Jan. 31 election of the Rev. Karin MacPhail as bishop. Her consecration and ordination service is scheduled for June 13.

In giving consent to MacPhail’s ordination and consecration as bishop, standing committees and bishops exercising jurisdiction in The Episcopal Church attest to knowing of “no impediment on account of which” MacPhail ought not be ordained as bishop, and that her election was conducted in accordance with the canons. The consent process is detailed in Canon III.11.3.

MacPhail is the rector of St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church in Roanoke, Virginia. Read news coverage about her election.
