This year, Earth Day is celebrated on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. Episcopalians are invited to commemorate it on Sunday, April 26 or any Sunday this spring by praying, preaching, and taking action to care for God’s creation.

Earth Day Sunday 2026 – Canopy of Creation: Trees, Faith, and the Work of Justice

Each year around Earth Day, Creation Justice Ministries publishes an annual resource with reflections, liturgical resources, sermon starters, biblical insights, and action ideas. This year’s theme is Canopy of Creation: Trees, Faith, and the Work of Justice. Download the resource here. 

Small group Creation Care Curriculum

“Love God; Love God’s World” is a nine-session, film-based curriculum designed for Episcopalians anywhere on the journey with creation care and environmental ministry—from newcomers looking to take their first step to seasoned leaders seeking a transformative small-group experience.  

Sessions have a similar structure to the popular Sacred Ground curriculum and include compelling films and readings, faith-based reflections, and discussion questions—each written by a different contributor and drawing from personal contexts and experiences. Participants will discover ways to learn, pray, advocate, and conserve.

Prophetic Voices: Preaching and Teaching Beloved Community is a popular podcast hosted by the Rev. Isaiah “Shaneequa” Brokenleg, The Episcopal Church’s staff officer for Racial Reconciliation. In 2023 the podcast put out a special episode on Preaching Earth Day focuses on the texts for Proper 6, “Called to Be Partners in the Care of Creation” from The Episcopal Church’s “Honoring God in Creation” supplemental liturgical materials, with guests The Rev. Phil Hooper, SMMS, who serves as associate priest at Trinity Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Northern Indiana, and the Rev.
