Cincinnati Summer School
Founded in 1923, the school was a joint project of the Department of Social Service of the National Council of the Episcopal Church and the Social Service Department of the Diocese of Southern Ohio. It was called the Cincinnati Summer School in Social Work and sometimes the Cincinnati Summer School in Social Service. Its work was to give a select group of candidates for ordination and junior clergy a first-hand knowledge of social case work and the methods of social agencies through clinical experience under supervision. It was designed to increase the effectiveness of the clergy's pastoral care. Joseph Fletcher served for a time as the school's co-director. In 1944 the Cincinnati Summer School merged with the Episcopal Theological School in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
