An Episcopal Dictionary of the Church

Seasonal Blessings

The BOS provides seasonal blessings for Advent, Christmas season, Epiphany, Easter season, the Day of Pentecost, the First Sunday after Pentecost: Trinity Sunday, and All Saints. In place of a seasonal blessing in Lent, a solemn Prayer over the People (Super Populum) is used. The seasonal blessings may be used by a bishop or priest whenever a blessing is appropriate. The BOS provides two forms for each seasonal blessing. There is a threefold form with an Amen at the end of each sentence, leading into a trinitarian blessing, and a single-sentence formula leading directly into the blessing. The BOS also provides forms for Blessing of Homes at Epiphany and Easter. These services may conclude with appropriate seasonal blessings.
