Rite I:
Almighty God, grant unto thy people a hunger for thy Word and an urgent longing to share thy Gospel; that, like thy servant Dominic, we might labor to bring the whole world to the knowledge and love of thee as thou art revealed in thy Son Jesus Christ; who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Rite II:
Almighty God, grant unto your people a hunger for your Word and an urgent longing to share your Gospel; that, like your servant Dominic, we might labor to bring the whole world to the knowledge and love of you as you are revealed in your Son Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

First Lesson: Ecclesiastes 12:1–8

¹Remember your creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come, and the years draw near when you will say, ‘I have no pleasure in them’; ²before the sun and the light and the moon and the stars are darkened and the clouds return with the rain; ³on the day when the guards of the house tremble, and the strong men are bent, and the women who grind cease working because they are few, and those who look through the windows see dimly; ⁴when the doors on the street are shut, and the sound of the grinding is low, and one rises up at the sound of a bird, and all the daughters of song are brought low; ⁵when one is afraid of heights, and terrors are in the road; the almond tree blossoms, the grasshopper drags itself along and desire fails; because all must go to their eternal home, and the mourners will go about the streets; ⁶before the silver cord is snapped, and the golden bowl is broken, and the pitcher is broken at the fountain, and the wheel broken at the cistern, ⁷and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the breath returns to God who gave it. ⁸ Vanity of vanities, says the Teacher; all is vanity.

Psalm: Psalm 103:1-7 

¹ Bless the Lord, O my soul, *
and all that is within me, bless his holy Name.
² Bless the Lord, O my soul, *
and forget not all his benefits.
³ He forgives all your sins *
and heals all your infirmities;
⁴ He redeems your life from the grave *
and crowns you with mercy and loving-kindness;
⁵ He satisfies you with good things, *
and your youth is renewed like an eagle’s.
⁶ The Lord executes righteousness *
and judgment for all who are oppressed.
⁷ He made his ways known to Moses *
and his works to the children of Israel.

Second Lesson: Romans 10:13-17 

¹³ For, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’

¹⁴ But how are they to call on one in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in one of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone to proclaim him? ¹⁵ And how are they to proclaim him unless they are sent? As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!’ ¹⁶ But not all have obeyed the good news; for Isaiah says, ‘Lord, who has believed our message?’ ¹⁷ So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ.

Gospel: John 7:16-18

¹⁶Then Jesus answered them, ‘My teaching is not mine but his who sent me. ¹⁷Anyone who resolves to do the will of God will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own. ¹⁸Those who speak on their own seek their own glory; but the one who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and there is nothing false in him.
