We invite you to join us as we share new prayers each week for the vulnerable among us facing challenges, fears, and threats. We will name many of the harms unfolding around us and acknowledge what is being erased, lost, and threatened. 

Please join us in prayer and share these prayers with your dioceses and parishes. 

We are one church united in prayer, naming reality in the face of lies, creating space for grief in the face of denial, and freeing space in our souls for hope. We gather to be the body of Christ for one another—bearing one another’s burdens—and pointing the world to the cross and its redemptive power already at work through our witness (even when it may not feel like it).   

These prayers are not a replacement for action; they offer grounding and space to discern what actions each of us feel compelled to take. We may feel called to meet with or contact our elected officials, participate in community organizing, provide services to those in our communities, or join in protests or acts of civil disobedience.

Prayers for May 2

Prayer for Police and Policing 
God of justice, we lament the ways our systems of law enforcement have not been just and have disproportionately harmed people of color. We lament the executive order that will weaken the small gains that have been made toward reducing police violence. We cry out with those raising alarm at the militarization of our police forces, and join them in calling for investment in healthy community development and violence reduction. Hear us, O Lord, and strengthen us to push for justice. Amen. 

Prayer for Indigenous Communities 
God, our comfort and consolation, we lament the Trump administration’s decision not to recognize Indigenous Peoples Day and the pain and anger this has caused in Indigenous communities. Help our Indigenous siblings to remember that they are beloved by you no matter what the powers and principalities dictate, and help your church to be a strong ally. Amen. 

 Prayer for Coalition Building 
Holy God, Three in One, you promise that wherever two or three are gathered in your name, you will be with them. We ask for your Spirit to guide us in nurturing new and existing local relationships that center one another’s humanity, and to strengthen local, state, and national coalitions working for justice. The challenges we face are great, but so is our capacity to find community and hope together; help us to feel this truth and to act on it. Amen. 

Prayer for Yemen 
God of all nations, we pray for the people of Yemen as they continue to live through civil war. This week, we especially pray for and with those injured in a U.S. strike on a refugee camp. We lament the United States’s complicity in the violence, and we commit to being strong advocates for peace and humanitarian aid, in the name of your Son. Amen.  

Prayer for Discernment in Digesting Online Content  
Most High God, your Son is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. In his name, we raise to you our concerns about false, distorted, or fabricated information which is increasingly shared online and through official channels. Help us all to be wise consumers of information, and grant protection and healing to those who have been harmed by untrue posts. Amen.

Oraciones semanales por la política pública y el testimonio

Si Dios no fuera mi socorro,
ya habitaría yo en el reino del silencio.

tu amor, Señor, fue mi sustento.

tu consuelo me deleita. (Salmo 94:17-19)

Los invitamos a que se nos unan para compartir nuevas oraciones cada semana por aquellos que son vulnerables entre nosotros quienes enfrentan desafíos, temores y amenazas. Declararemos muchos de los perjuicios que se están fomentando a nuestro alrededor y reconoceremos lo que está siendo anulado, perdido y amenazado. 

Únase a nosotros en oración y comparta estas oraciones con sus diócesis y parroquias. 

Somos una iglesia unida en oración, proclamando la realidad frente a las mentiras, creando espacio para el dolor frente a la negación, y liberando espacio en nuestras almas para la esperanza. Nos reunimos para ser el cuerpo de Cristo ante los demás, llevando las cargas de los demás, y señalando la cruz al mundo y su poder redentor que ya está obrando a través de nuestro testimonio (incluso cuando puede que no se sienta así).   

Estas oraciones no son un reemplazo de la acción; ofrecen la base y el espacio para discernir qué acciones cada uno de nosotros se siente obligado a tomar. Podemos sentirnos llamados a congregarnos o contactar a nuestros funcionarios electos, participar en la organización comunitaria, proveer servicios a los miembros de nuestras comunidades, o unirnos a protestas o actos de desobediencia civil.

Oraciones para la semana del 2 de mayo

Oración por la policía y el servicio policial 

Dios de justicia, lamentamos las formas en que nuestros sistemas policiales no han sido justos y han afectado desproporcionadamente a las personas de color. Lamentamos el decreto que debilitará los pequeños avances logrados en la reducción de la violencia policial. Nos unimos a quienes alertan sobre la militarización de nuestras fuerzas policiales y a su llamado a invertir en un desarrollo comunitario saludable y a la reducción de la violencia. Escúchanos, Señor, y fortalécenos para luchar por la justicia. Amén. 

Oración por las comunidades indígenas  

Dios, nuestro amparo y consuelo, lamentamos la decisión del gobierno de Trump de no reconocer el Día de los Pueblos Indígenas y el dolor y la ira que esto ha suscitado en las comunidades indígenas. Ayuda a nuestros hermanos indígenas a recordar que los amas, sin importar lo que dicten los poderes y principados, y ayuda a tu Iglesia a ser un firme aliado. Amén.

 Oración por la formación de coaliciones 

Dios Santo y Trino, que prometes que donde dos o tres se reúnan en tu nombre, estarás con ellos. Pedimos a tu Espíritu que nos guíe para cultivar relaciones locales nuevas y existentes que se centren en la humanidad de cada uno, y para fortalecer las coaliciones locales, estatales y nacionales que laboren en pro de la justicia. Los desafíos que enfrentamos son grandes, pero también lo es nuestra capacidad de encontrar una comunidad y una esperanza juntos. Ayúdanos a sentir esta verdad y a actuar en consecuencia. Amén. 

Oración por Yemen 

Dios de todas las naciones, oramos por el pueblo de Yemen mientras continúa viviendo la guerra civil. Esta semana, oramos especialmente por y con los heridos en un ataque estadounidense a un campo de refugiados. Lamentamos la complicidad de Estados Unidos en la violencia y nos comprometemos a ser firmes defensores de la paz y de la ayuda humanitaria, en el nombre de tu Hijo. Amén 

Oración para el discernimiento al resumir el contenido en línea 

Dios Altísimo, tu Hijo es el Camino, la Verdad y la Vida. En su nombre, te presentamos nuestra preocupación por la información falsa, distorsionada o inventada que se comparte cada vez más en la Internet y a través de canales oficiales. Ayúdanos a todos a ser sabios consumidores de información y concédele protección y restauración a los que han sido afectados por publicaciones falsas. Amén.
