  • Ash Wednesday letter from Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe

Ash Wednesday letter from Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe

    Feb 18, 2026Jul 7, 2026

Dear people of God in The Episcopal Church: When God told Moses to lead the ancient Israelites out of slavery in the land of Egypt, Pharaoh stood in his way. Pharaoh wanted power and control over God’s people, and Exodus tells us that the more serious the situation got, the more hardened his heart became. Despite locusts and frogs and all manner of chaos in the land of Egypt, Pharaoh remained trapped by his view of the world, which had himself and his power at the center. He could not see that God’s imagination was far bigger and more expansive than his. He could not imagine liberation for God’s people—or for himself.

    Feb 13, 2026Aug 10, 2026

If the Lord had not been my help, my soul would soon have lived in the land of silence. When I thought, “My foot is slipping,” your steadfast love, O Lord, held me up. When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul. (Psalm 94:17-19)  Join us each week as we share new prayers for the…

Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe: Invest in young leaders through the Absalom Jones Fund

    Feb 12, 2026Jul 7, 2026

Dear people of God in The Episcopal Church: Last year, I had the honor to preach at the historic African Episcopal Church of St. Thomas on the Feast of Absalom Jones. That occasion gave me the opportunity to revisit the work that the Honorable Byron Rushing and Mr. Arthur Sudler have done to enlarge and correct our understanding of Blessed Absalom’s legacy and gave me renewed appreciation for the way in which the pastoral and the prophetic were intertwined in his ministry.

From Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe: Death and despair do not have the last word

    Jan 25, 2026Jul 7, 2026

Dear people of God in The Episcopal Church: Like Jesus, we live in frightening times. His earthly ministry began, as we heard in today’s Gospel reading, when John the Baptist was imprisoned by authorities who wanted to silence his preaching and prophesying.
