The Presiding Bishop’s delegation to the 64th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW 64) invites all to join the online study group Beijing +25: Celebrating the Blessing, Realizing the Dream, which will offer a series of webinars, blogs and conversations facilitated by the delegates from July through November 2020.

In 2020, the world celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995 and the founding of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BDPfA). Episcopalians were present for this event in 1995 and have since been active participants in implementing the BDPfA in their churches and communities.

The 64th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW 64) was meant to celebrate this anniversary at UN headquarters in March 2020, but the celebration has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

While waiting for the celebration, the Presiding Bishop’s UNCSW 64 delegation is offering an online study group series during July through November 2020, Beijing+25: Celebrating the Blessing, Realizing the Dream, to examine the ways in which The Episcopal Church has engaged with Beijing since 1995, invite Episcopalians to take part in ongoing research on their engagement and to study the document together. The delegation will lead Episcopalians in a conversation to: share stories and “celebrate the blessing” of all they have achieved; recall the importance of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, understand the ways in which the Church has and has not engaged with it and participate in an online study of this critical document; think critically about what still needs to be done to “realize the dream” of Beijing and how to make that happen within the UN, within the Church, and through local, national and global advocacy and action.

La delegación del Obispo Primado a la 64ª. sesión de la Comisión de las Naciones Unidas sobre la Condición Jurídica y Social de la Mujer (UNCSW 64) invita a todos a participar en el grupo de estudio virtual Beijing +25: Celebrando la bendición, realizando el sueño [Celebrating the Blessing, Realizing the Dream], que ofrecerá una serie de seminarios en la red, blogs y conversatorios, coordinados por los delegados, de julio a noviembre de 2020.

En 2020, el mundo celebra el 25º. Aniversario de la Cuarta Conferencia Mundial de la Mujer en 1995 y la fundación de la Declaración y Plataforma de Acción de Beijing (BDPfA) [por su sigla en inglés]. Hubo episcopales presentes en ese evento en 1995 y desde entonces han sido activos participantes en la implementación de la BDPfA en sus iglesias y comunidades.

La 64ª. Sesión de la Comisión de las Naciones Unidas sobre la Condición Jurídica y Social de la Mujer (UNCSW 64) se proponía celebrar este aniversario en la sede central de las Naciones Unidas en marzo de 2020, pero la celebración se ha aplazado debido a la pandemia del coronavirus.

Mientras está a la espera de la celebración, la delegación del Obispo Primado a la UNCSW 64 ofrecerá una serie de grupos de estudio virtuales de julio a noviembre de 2020, Beijing +25: Celebrando la bendición, realizando el sueño, para examinar las formas en que la Iglesia Episcopal se ha comprometido con [la Declaración y Plataforma de Acción de] Beijing desde 1995, invitar a los episcopales a tomar parte en la indagación permanente sobre su compromiso y a estudiar el documento juntos. La delegación orientará a los episcopales en un diálogo para: compartir relatos y “celebrar la bendición” de todo lo que se ha logrado; recordar la importancia de la Declaración y Plataforma de Acción de Beijing, entender los medios en que la Iglesia se ha comprometido y en los que no se ha comprometido con la misma y participar en un estudio virtual de este importantísimo documento; pensar críticamente sobre lo que aún debe hacerse para “realizar el sueño” de Beijing y qué hacer para que eso suceda en el marco de la ONU, dentro de la Iglesia, y mediante la promoción social y la acción en el ámbito local, nacional y global.
