Jubilee Ministry grants applications now accepted for Episcopal Church programs and mission work

Applications for 2010 and 2011 Jubilee Ministry grants are now being accepted in six categories for mission and ministry throughout the Episcopal Church.

Applications are available in three 2010 categories: health and nutrition; building a just society; and diocesan development. The three 2011 categories are Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) workshop funding; summer camp partnership grants; and protecting God”s creation.

Jubilee Ministries are congregations or agencies with connections to The Episcopal Church whose mission efforts affect the lives of those in need, addressing basic human needs and justice issues. Grants to Jubilee ministries are awarded annually.

Categories, deadlines, amounts and explanation:

2010 grants

Health and nutrition, due December 1; $750 grants; Jubilee Ministries that respond to the nutritional needs of food deserts. A food desert is a district with little or no access to foods needed to maintain a healthy diet but often served by fast food restaurants..

Building a just society; due December 1: $2,500 grants supporting local poverty alleviation initiatives that emerge from local communities and leaders.

Funding diocesan initiatives; due December 1; $1,000 Diocesan Jubilee Ministry Development Grants to support Jubilee Ministry development plans of the local bishop and the appointed diocesan jubilee officer.

2011 grants

Jubilee Ministry ABCD Workshop; due December 1 for dioceses hosting two-day Asset Based Community Development training workshops featuring ABCD Institute trainer Mike Green with a financial benefit ranging from $4,000- $5,000 per workshop event. Six 2011 ABCD workshops will be funded.

Jubilee Ministry partnership grants; due February 1; $1,000 for 2011 summer camp programs targeting literacy or children of people who are incarcerated. A total of 30 grants will be awarded in early 2011.

Protect God”s creation; due November 1 through February 01, 2011: $250-$500 grants to supplement congregational participation in GreenFaith certification program in collaboration with the Episcopal Church.
