Christina Bouri has been named Middle East fellow for The Episcopal Church, where she will lead advocacy efforts for the church and serve as a liaison between the church and the Episcopal Church in Jerusalem & the Middle East. Bouri will work in the Office of Government Relations as part of the public policy, partnership, and witness team.
Most recently, Bouri served as a research associate for Middle East studies at the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington, D.C.
In her new role, Bouri will work closely with members of the Episcopal Church in Jerusalem & the Middle East, which includes the dioceses of Jerusalem (covering Lebanon, Syria, Israel, Palestine, and Jordan), Cyprus and the Gulf (including Yemen, Iraq, and the United Arab Emirates), and Iran. She also will engage with stakeholders in Washington, D.C., to support informed policy dialogue, advocacy, and church education aligned with The Episcopal Church’s policies and mission.
Bouri, who speaks Arabic with native fluency, has extensive academic and professional expertise in the region, as well as in foreign policy. She has published on humanitarian crises affecting women and children in Syria, Lebanon, and Gaza.
While earning a Master of Arts in Middle Eastern studies from Harvard University, Bouri worked as a research assistant at the Religion, Conflict, and Peace Initiative at Harvard Divinity School, focusing on Israel-Palestine.
