Diocese of Cuba receives consents for Bishop-elect Angel Rivera

The standing committees and bishops exercising jurisdiction have given the required majority of consents to the Episcopal Diocese of Cuba for its Feb. 28 election of the Rev. Angel Rivera as bishop. His ordination is scheduled for Sept. 18.

Rivera serves as the rector of Parroquia Ayudada San José in the Rio Piedras district of San Juan in Puerto Rico. His election on the first ballot was the first time the Diocese of Cuba has elected its own leader since its return to The Episcopal Church was finalized in 2020.

In giving consent to Rivera’s ordination and consecration as bishop, standing committees and bishops exercising jurisdiction in The Episcopal Church attest to knowing of “no impediment on account of which” Bishop-elect Rivera ought not be ordained as bishop, and that his election was conducted in accordance with the canons. The consent process is detailed in Canon III.11.3.
