The Rev. Kirsten Guidero has been named ecumenical and interreligious officer for The Episcopal Church, serving in the division of public policy and witness. Guidero is a theology professor and priest in Indianapolis with two decades of program leadership experience in academic and ecclesial settings. She began her new role in late September and reports to Rebecca Blachly, chief of public policy and witness.
“I am thrilled Kirsten will be taking on the role of ecumenical and interreligious officer for The Episcopal Church at this critical time,” Blachly said. “She brings many gifts to this role, including her strong academic work, dedicated service to the church, and passion for ecumenical and interreligious relations.”
Guidero served most recently as priest associate for formation at Trinity Episcopal Church in Indianapolis and associate professor of theology and scholar-in-residence at Marian University. She holds a doctorate in religious studies from Marquette University and has served as an adjunct professor of theology at Bexley Seabury Seminary in Chicago, among other academic appointments.
In addition to her service as a priest and professor, Guidero was a member of the contact group facilitating full communion between The Episcopal Church and the Church of Sweden; served twice as a General Convention deputy; and chaired the theology subcommittee of the church’s Standing Commission on Ecumenical and Interreligious Relations.
In her new role, Guidero will support ecumenical and interreligious efforts throughout the church by promoting understanding and collaboration among all God’s people and deeper unity among churches. Her work will focus on equipping local dioceses, providing resources to the church at large, educating and advocating, and participating in dialogues.
