Finance Office and real estate support
The Episcopal Church’s Finance Office seeks to exercise faithful stewardship through administration of the annual budget and triennial budget and management of the church’s liquidity and endowment assets. In 2025, we began an initiative to offer guidance and support to Episcopal congregations and dioceses in the areas of long-term financial planning and real estate development.
As we seek to serve God and others well as a church, managing our financial resources thoughtfully and efficiently is a spiritual practice as much as a practical one. We steward our churchwide resources as we strive to participate in God’s redeeming love at work in our communities and the world. Jesus reminds us, “Do not store up for yourselves treasure on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal, but store up for yourselves treasure in heaven” (Matthew 6:19-20a).

Episcopal Church budget
The Episcopal Church’s budget details how churchwide income is used to fund its mission, ministry, governance, and administrative work. Churchwide income comprises financial contributions from congregations through their dioceses (known as “diocesan assessments”) as well as investment income on the church’s endowment. Expenses primarily include compensation for staff of the Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society (the churchwide corporate entity), and grants to dioceses, congregations, and other organizations throughout The Episcopal Church and the broader Anglican Communion.
Every three years, the church’s General Convention votes on a budget to fund the work of the church during the next triennium. During the years between conventions, the Executive Council adopts annual budgets revised to meet current needs. Endowment and investments
Episcopal congregations, dioceses, and other organizations affiliated with The Episcopal Church are welcome to co-invest their endowment assets with The Episcopal Church’s endowment portfolio. Since the 1960s, we have practiced socially responsible investing, aligning our investments with our ethical, environmental, moral, and social values.
