Episcopal Church racial justice assessments
The 2015 gathering of The Episcopal Church’s General Convention began the formation of our long-term commitment to racial healing as outlined in the “Becoming Beloved Community” vision document.
2020 Racial Justice Audit of Episcopal Leadership
The first step in that commitment—telling the truth about the church and race—included a call to complete a racial justice audit of church leadership. From 2018 to 2020, more than 1,300 people were surveyed and interviewed about their experience of racism, racial identity, and power in the life of the church.

2021 Diocesan inventory of racial justice and truth-telling ministries
In 2020 and 2021, the church’s racial reconciliation team partnered with Justice and Sustainability Associates to survey Episcopal dioceses about their involvement in truth-telling, proclamation, formation, and justice ministries. The results showed both increased engagement across the church as well as disparities between dioceses in areas of community and leadership support, resource availability, and more. 2024 Summit on Truth-telling and Reparations

Civil discourse curriculum
The five-part “Make Me an Instrument of Peace: A Guide to Civil Discourse” is offered by the church’s Office of Government Relations in partnership with ChurchNext. This free resource, available in several formats, helps participants learn new and better ways to engage with others.
Episcopal Diocese of New Jersey anti-racism training
This multiweek training by the diocesan Anti-Racism Commission is offered online in English and Spanish and has been completed by hundreds of lay and ordained Episcopalians and others.
