The 26th Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church

Katharine Jefferts Schori

Joint Assembly – Together for the Love of the World

July 9, 2013

I bring you greetings from The Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society.  That has been the formal name of The Episcopal Church for almost 200 years.  We began to send missionary bishops to the wilds of the mid-continent in 1835, and 9 years later almost simultaneously sent one to China and one to Turkey.  As a […]

Episcopal Asiamerica Ministry – 40th Anniversary

June 24, 2013

The nations have gathered, and streamed in to this city set on a hill – there are supposedly 7 hills here, and this is almost certainly the highest one with a church! – the nations have come up to the house of the Lord with great rejoicing.  It is exceedingly fitting to celebrate 40 years […]

Proper 6C – El Buen Pastor

June 17, 2013

Has anyone here ever worked as a shepherd, or known someone who did? My husband and I kept goats for a long time, but never sheep. We did get to know a shepherd one summer in Nevada. We never actually saw him, but we did see the messages he carved on trees as he followed the sheep: Antonio Hidalgo, peruano, borreguero, con muchos cojones y poco dinero.

Proper 4C – Church of the Ascension 110th Anniversary

June 3, 2013

Address for Preaching Excellence Conference – 25th Anniversary

June 3, 2013

I want to invite us to consider what kinds of proclamation are likely to be needed as we move into the future that God is creating all around us.  We live in a world that’s changing rapidly, is increasingly interconnected, and at least in much of the developed world, functions more and more on a […]

June 3, 2013

Creator, we give you thanks for all you are and all you bring to us for our visit within your creation.  In Jesus, you place the Gospel in the center of this sacred circle through which all of creation is related.  You show us the way to live a generous and compassionate life.  Give us […]

Episcopal Relief & Development – Evening Prayer and Commissioning of Diocesan Representatives

May 28, 2013

Today is the feast of Bede, who lived from 673 to 735, and is probably best known for writing a history of the English church from its beginnings up to the early 8th century.  Much of what we know about Augustine of Canterbury and others who brought Christianity to the British Isles again after the […]
