Office of Development
Programs & Priorities
As directed by General Convention and through the Executive Council and the Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church, the 2015-2018 funding priorities -- several of which are based on resolutions --were identified as the Diocese of Haiti and Navajoland Area Mission and the Campaign for the Episcopal Archives and Mission Research Center. In 2016 additional priorities were identified as fund-worthy these include Becoming Beloved Community initiatives for racial reconciliation and justice HBCUs and the Washington National Cathedral partnership. In 2017 The Office of Development was asked to seek funding for Episcopal Migration Ministries in response to the elimination of federal funding. The Office of Development also serves to provide development support and technical assistance annually through Project Resource, a 3-year old program that provides training to diocese and parishes.
The Office of Development supports the work of the programs and initiatives of The Episcopal Church using the standard best practices of fundraising and development that include mail solicitations, regular appeals, crowd-sourcing, proposals and formal one-on-one solicitation. Opportunities to give through Planned Giving vehicles is essential to the future of successful fundraising.
The Office of Development works directly with the leadership of The Episcopal Church guided by the Presiding Bishop, the Executive Council and General Convention. Working closely with appropriate task forces, advisory councils and canons, The Office of Development seeks to fulfill the need to build strong relationships with those whose capacity can support the future of the church as well as engaging generosity and stewardship at every level. Offering opportunities for the people of the church to be engaged with the mission-work of The Episcopal Church.
